More About Us
Cheshire Furniture and Joinery Ltd is a family business that started trading in 1973 as L H Woodcraft. Originally housed in a three storey building in Romiley, Stockport situated on the canal front, the building used to be a old inn and the cellars in the building had been used for keeping the horses which pulled the barges along the canal.
L H Woodcraft specialised in bespoke made to measure furniture, but also did work for the Danish Furniture company Tamberg producing school desking for language labs, these were before computers became so readily available and each desk would have a special cassette player built in with headphones which was linked to the teacher.
In the early 90’s L H Woodcraft was approached by John Kidd and Roger Stephenson OBE to produce a new range of office furniture and desking for a company that they had created called D3. The range became hugely successful and the company soon opened a showroom in central Manchester and fitted out many prestigious offices including all the branches of the Rothschild’s Investment Bank. Due to the large panels used to construct this range of furniture the company and its manufacturing moved to its current location in Strines, Marple. The unfortunate death of John Kidd and the ever increasing success of Roger Stephenson’s Architectural practice bought an end to D3 and L H Woodcraft continued on producing bespoke woodwork for its ever increasing clients.
In 2009 the owner Mr Lutley retired and the company was taken over by his son Steve Lutley and Donald Campbell. Steve had worked for the company for 28 years and Donald for 32 years and on joining together they decided to rename the company Cheshire Furniture and Joinery Ltd. Donald had previously worked for 15 years at Portwood Furniture in both the production and management, so between them Donald and Steve have over 75 years of experience in the manufacture, finishing and installation of every conceivable type of furniture and woodwork.
Cheshire Furniture and Joinery Ltd produces bespoke joinery and carpentry and has the facilities to create handmade furniture using all types of hardwoods, softwoods and veneered panels with many different finishes including in house lacquering, spray painting or hand painting and also undertake restoration work.
