More About Us

Cheshire Furniture and Joinery Ltd is a long-standing family business with roots dating back to 1973 when it began trading under the name L H Woodcraft. Our company was originally located in Romiley, Stockport, in a building that once served as an old inn and horse stable for the canal front. Specialising in made-to-measure bespoke furniture, we also worked for the Danish Furniture company Tamberg, producing school desking for language labs.

In the early 90s, we were approached by John Kidd and Roger Stephenson OBE to create a new range of office furniture and desking for their new company, D3. The range was highly successful and led to the opening of a showroom in central Manchester, outfitting prestigious offices, including all the branches of the Rothschild’s Investment Bank. Due to the size of the panels used in the construction of this range of furniture, the company relocated to its current location in Strines, Marple.

In 2009, the business was taken over by Steve Lutley, who had worked for the company for 28 years, and Donald Campbell, who had previously worked for 15 years at Portwood Furniture in both production and management. Together, they renamed the company Cheshire Furniture and Joinery Ltd, continuing to offer bespoke joinery, handmade furniture, and restoration work. With over 75 years of combined experience in manufacturing, finishing, and installing furniture and woodwork, our team has the expertise and facilities to create stunning custom pieces using a wide range of hardwoods, softwoods, and veneered panels with a variety of finishes, including in-house lacquering, spray painting, or hand painting.
